PP1 & PP2: Ready, Set, Grow
Pre-Primary at ST MARY'S CHRISTA
Pre-Primary is part of Early Years Education under the CBE framework. Over two years — PP1 and PP2 — children learn through play, songs, stories, movement and exploration, building the skills and confidence they need for Grade 1.

PP1
Pre-Primary 1 — curiosity in full bloom
In PP1 children deepen the habits of learning: listening, speaking, early reading readiness, counting and creative expression. Lessons are short, active and full of play, following the KICD Pre-Primary curriculum design.
Learning Environment
PP1 classrooms are arranged in learning corners — reading, numbers, art and play — with colourful charts, the children's work on display and safe outdoor play spaces.
Learning Areas
Language, Mathematical, Creative, Environmental and Religious Education Activities, delivered through themes children love such as My Family, Animals and Our School.
Activities
Story time, singing games, counting with real objects, sorting and matching, nature walks, cooking demonstrations and role play.
Creative Learning
Painting, modelling, collage, music and dance encourage imagination and fine-motor development.
Language Development
Children learn letter sounds, build vocabulary, retell stories and practise speaking confidently in front of others.
Numeracy Foundations
Counting, number recognition, sorting, patterns, shapes and simple measurement — all through hands-on play.
Social Development
Learners practise sharing, cooperating, expressing feelings and caring for others and their environment.
Outdoor Play
Daily outdoor time on the climbing frame, field games and free play builds gross-motor skills and confidence.

PP2
Pre-Primary 2 — ready for Grade 1
PP2 is the bridge to Primary School. Children grow in early reading and writing, number sense, communication and independence — and celebrate their achievement at our much-loved PP2 graduation ceremony.
Learning Experiences
Theme-based lessons combine stories, songs, experiments, games and art. Children work in pairs and groups and begin longer, more focused activities.
School Readiness
We build independence — managing belongings, following instructions, focusing on tasks and expressing needs — so children start Grade 1 confident and capable.
Communication
Learners speak in full sentences, retell stories, recite poems, and begin reading simple words and writing letters and their names.
Numeracy
Counting and writing numbers, simple addition and subtraction with objects, patterns, shapes, time and money in everyday contexts.
Creative Activities
Art, craft, music, dance and drama — PP2 learners often perform at school events and festivals.
Social Development
Learners take on small classroom responsibilities, practise kindness and teamwork, and learn to resolve disagreements respectfully.
Environmental Awareness
Caring for plants and the school compound, hygiene habits, weather and seasons, and learning about the community around us — including educational trips.
