Questions Parents Ask
How do I apply for admission?
Click any "Apply Now" button on our website to open our secure online application on SkulManager (school code STMARY6344). Complete the form and our admissions team will contact you with next steps.
Which grades are you admitting?
We admit learners into Playgroup, PP1, PP2, Grade 1–6 (Primary) and Grade 7–9 (Junior School). For Senior School (Grade 10–12), please contact the school for current availability.
Can my child join mid-year?
Yes, subject to space in the class. Contact us on WhatsApp or by phone and we will advise on availability and placement.
Is there an entry assessment?
Where applicable, learners take a friendly placement assessment or interview to help us understand their level and support them well. It is not meant to exclude learners.
What documents do I need?
A copy of the birth certificate, passport-size photos, parent/guardian ID, immunisation records for Early Years, and previous school reports for transfer learners. See the Admissions page for the full list.
How much are the school fees?
Fees vary by level and are reviewed annually. Please contact the school office, call/WhatsApp +254 704 233 559 or email stmaryschrista@gmail.com for the current approved fee structure.
Can fees be paid in instalments?
Please discuss payment arrangements with the school administration, who will advise on the options available.
Which curriculum do you follow?
We follow Kenya's Competency-Based Education (CBE) as designed by KICD, from Early Years through Senior School.
How will I know how my child is progressing?
Through termly assessment reports, portfolios, parents' meetings and academic clinics. You can also contact your child's class teacher at any time through the school office.
What is the difference between CBE and the old 8-4-4 system?
CBE focuses on developing competencies — skills, values and knowledge learners can apply — rather than mainly memorisation for exams. It uses continuous assessment and lets learners specialise in a pathway at Senior School.
Why do learners have so many projects?
Projects let learners apply what they learn, work with others and be creative. Parents can support by guiding and providing simple materials — but please let learners do the work themselves.
What are the Senior School pathways?
STEM, Social Sciences, and Arts & Sports Science. Learners choose a pathway at the end of Grade 9 based on their interests, abilities and assessment records. See our Pathways page for tracks and subjects.
How is a pathway chosen?
Through career guidance, the learner's interests and Junior School assessment records, and discussion between the learner, parents and teachers.
Do you offer school transport?
Yes, school transport is available on selected routes. Contact the school for routes and charges.
What co-curricular activities are available?
Music, drama & film, chess, art, science & environment, ICT, debate, journalism, sports (football, athletics, volleyball, netball) and more. Learners also take part in music and drama festivals and educational trips.
Where do I get the school uniform?
Uniform details and approved suppliers are provided at admission. Please contact the school office for the uniform list.
When does the school term begin?
We follow the Ministry of Education school calendar. Opening and closing dates are published on our Events Calendar and shared with parents.
Do you offer boarding?
Please contact the school for current information on boarding arrangements.
Where is the school located?
We are in Siaya Township, next to Siaya Township Primary School, Siaya County. See our Contact page for a map and directions.
Can I visit the school before applying?
